India summons Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has summoned Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Nurul Islam to discuss escalating tensions between Delhi and Dhaka.
The move follows Bangladesh's summoning of Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, Pranay Verma, on Sunday regarding the construction of a barbed wire fence by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the border in the Chapainawabganj and Naogaon districts.
The construction of the fence has sparked concerns in Bangladesh, prompting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon Pranay Verma for discussions. Following his meeting with Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin on Sunday, Verma addressed the media, emphasizing India’s commitment to securing a crime-free border.
“We are committed to ensuring that smuggling, human trafficking, and the movement of criminals are prevented,” Verma stated.
Verma noted that both countries had previously reached an understanding on the matter. “There is an agreement on border fencing for security purposes, and border guards from both nations are maintaining communication to implement this.”
He expressed optimism for continued collaboration, saying, “We hope for a cooperative approach from both sides to prevent crime and uphold border security.”
The summoning of diplomats on both sides reflects heightened sensitivities and underscores the importance of maintaining a cooperative and peaceful approach to resolving border issues.
