Sullivan claims US not behind Bangladesh events, finds charge 'preposterous'

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has dismissed allegations that the United States played a role in the July Uprising and subsequent regime change in Bangladesh, calling the idea "preposterous."

Speaking to a select group of reporters in the Roosevelt Room of the White House on Friday morning (Eastern Time), Sullivan emphasised that his conversations with senior Indian officials indicate New Delhi does not believe the US was involved in the events in Dhaka either.

Responding to a question from The Hindustan Times regarding perceptions in India that the US was behind the power shift in Bangladesh—and the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) claims that the US "deep state" seeks to destabilise India—Sullivan firmly rejected the allegations.

“I will start by politely rejecting the notion that I preside over the deep state and also politely rejecting the notion that the United States was behind events in Bangladesh, which is preposterous,” Sullivan stated. “And I don’t believe, based on my conversations with senior Indian officials, that they believed that we were behind it.”
