Tulip breaks cover since home controversy exposed
Labour MP Tulip Siddiq, the UK’s Economic Secretary to the Treasury, broke cover following revelations linking her to properties connected to her deposed aunt, Sheikh Hasina.
Tulip, tasked with tackling corruption in the financial industry, was photographed heading to work amid intensifying questions over her ties to the ousted Bangladeshi regime.
The Daily Mail reported UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) could expand its investigation into Tulip’s properties as part of an international effort to trace billions allegedly stolen by Hasina’s regime. Reports indicate that officials from the NCA and HMRC visited Dhaka late last year to assist Bangladeshi investigators.
The newspaper also reported Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer expressed confidence in Tulip, saying she had “acted entirely properly” by referring herself to the standards adviser. However, questions remain over her involvement and her potential ties to the alleged financial misdeeds of her aunt’s government.
