Bangladeshi tourists traveling to the northeastern Indian state of Tripura will no longer be able to book hotels or dine at restaurants.

The All Tripura Hotel and Restaurant Owners’ Association announced on Monday, through a statement, a temporary ban on their entry into hotels and food outlets in the state.

The decision follows protests in Agartala over the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das and alleged attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. These protests also led to a breach at the Bangladesh assistant high commission, drawing condemnation from India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

After the announcement, association members have been actively putting up posters at hotel front desks and restaurants to spread the word.

“All hoteliers must display a sticker or poster at the reception, provided by the association, regarding this matter," the statement said.

“The association will issue a press release regarding this matter immediately," it added.

“We are putting up posters at hotel front desks barring Bangladeshi nationals from entering hotel premises and have increased security checks," said Bhaskar Chakraborty, secretary of the association.
