US for holding accountable human rights violators in Bangladesh

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasised that the United States is committed to seeing human rights protected in Bangladesh and that those responsible for the violation of human rights in the last few months should be brought under accountability.

Miller made these remarks during a press briefing on Monday, in response to a journalist's inquiry about the safety of Bangladesh's Hindu community during Durga Puja and concerns over human rights abuses.

Asked whether the US government has engaged with Bangladesh regarding the protection of minorities, Miller affirmed, “Of course, we want to see the rights of minorities protected in Bangladesh as often is as true all around the world.”

In response to a question about rising mob violence, extrajudicial killings and prosecuting innocent individuals in Bangladesh, and whether the US would take action, Miller said that Secretary of State Antony Blinken had recently met with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. “And made it clear that we want to see human rights protected, and that ultimately those responsible for violations of the human rights of the Bangladeshi people over the past few months need to be held accountable,” said Miller.
