Hezbollah, Hamas launch rockets at Israel
The Lebanese armed group Hezbollah and Hamas’s Qassam Brigades launched a salvo of rockets targeting Karmiel in northern Israel and in Al-Awdah (referred to as Sufa by Israelis), Holit, and Karem Abu Salem (known as Kerem Shalom in Israel), as well as at Israeli forces stationed at the Rafah border crossing on Monday.
Hezbollah launched a salvo of rockets targeting Karmiel in northern Israel at 6:55am local time.
The attack triggered sirens across Karmiel and other Upper Galilee communities, according to Israeli media. Israel’s Ynet News reported that 15 projectiles were fired from Lebanon, most of which were intercepted by Israeli defense systems.
This attack follows a barrage of Hezbollah rockets late Sunday night, which injured at least 10 people in the port city of Haifa and another individual in the northern city of Tiberias.
Hamas claims rocket attacks
Hamas’s Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on southern Israel.
According to the group, several Radium rockets were fired at Israeli military positions in Al-Awdah (referred to as Sufa by Israelis), Holit, and Karem Abu Salem (known as Kerem Shalom in Israel), as well as at Israeli forces stationed at the Rafah border crossing.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military stated on X (formerly Twitter) that it had “thwarted an immediate threat,” after detecting plans by Hamas to launch a larger attack. Israeli fighter jets reportedly bombed Hamas rocket launchers and tunnels in Gaza in a preemptive strike, shortly before 6:30 AM (03:30 GMT), aligning with the timing of last year’s surprise Hamas assault on southern Israel.
Israeli soldier killed
Meanwhile, he Israeli army said Monday that a soldier was killed along the country's northern border with Lebanon, the latest casualty since the military launched ground operations targeting Hezbollah positions last week.
"Master Sergeant Etay Azulay... fell during combat on the Lebanese border," an army statement said.
