US iterates support for survivors of Rohingya genocide
The United States has reaffirmed its solidarity with the survivors of the Rohingya genocide, pledging continued support to provide life-saving assistance to affected Rohingya communities and those impacted by the crisis in Myanmar, Bangladesh, and the region.
"Over the past seven years, the United States has contributed nearly $2.4 billion in humanitarian aid," stated US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken in a statement commemorating the Rohingya genocide.
He emphasised the US's ongoing efforts to document the atrocities and abuses committed against the Rohingya and all civilians.
The persistent humanitarian crisis and human rights violations in Myanmar have exacerbated the challenges faced by members of many of Myanmar's ethnic and religious minority groups, particularly the Rohingya, Blinken noted.
"Our unwavering support for the people of Burma in their pursuit of a democratic, inclusive, and peaceful future remains steadfast, as do our calls on all parties to protect civilians from harm," he concluded.
