Bangladesh now inspiration for Pakistanis, red-green flags in high demand

In a surprising turn of events, Bangladesh has emerged as a symbol of inspiration for many Pakistanis. 

The bravery and unity shown by Bangladeshi students in standing up against oppressive regimes have resonated deeply with the people of Pakistan, particularly supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. This admiration has sparked an unexpected trend—Bangladeshi flags are now in high demand across Pakistan.

This year, as Pakistan celebrated its 78th Independence Day on August 14, the usual surge in sales of Pakistani flags took an intriguing twist. Alongside the green and white, the red-green flag of Bangladesh became a popular item in markets across the country.

Pakistani YouTuber Muhammad Rehan, known for his content on Bangladesh-Pakistan relations, highlighted this phenomenon in a video posted on August 14. In the video, he interviews several flag vendors who confirm the soaring demand for Bangladeshi flags.

One vendor revealed that he had sold between 1,200 and 1,300 Bangladeshi flags, priced between Rs 350-500 depending on the size. When asked why he decided to stock Bangladeshi flags, he simply replied, "People like it, they come to buy."

Rehan also spoke with a young buyer who had come specifically to purchase the Bangladeshi flag. The buyer expressed his admiration for the recent changes in Bangladesh, stating that he felt inspired by the events there. "I will fly the flag of Bangladesh alongside Pakistan's on this Independence Day," he said proudly.

Another vendor mentioned that he had initially stocked Bangladeshi flags, but they sold out quickly, underscoring the strong demand.

When asked about the reasons behind this trend, one seller pointed to the recent student movement in Bangladesh as a key factor. "Those who know how to unite, they unite. The students of Bangladesh have united. That is why they are progressing," he explained.

This unexpected surge in the popularity of Bangladeshi flags in Pakistan reflects a growing admiration for the resilience and unity of the Bangladeshi people, as they continue to inspire movements beyond their borders.
