Pentagon reaffirms US commitment to shared values with Bangladesh
The United States has iterated its commitment to supporting shared values and interests with Bangladesh, particularly in ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
"We do have a defense relationship with Bangladesh," Pentagon Press Secretary Maj Gen Pat Ryder stated during a press briefing on August 20 when asked about the role of the Bangladesh Army in maintaining peace and stability under the interim government led by Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus.
When questioned about any collaboration or communication between the US and Bangladesh military during this transitional period, Ryder responded that he had no specific updates to share regarding ongoing contacts.
"As it relates to the Bangladesh government, of course, we would expect human rights to be observed and there to be an avoidance of any type of violence," Ryder emphasised.
