Malaysia ready to support Yunus-led interim govt: Anwar Ibrahim

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has assured Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser to Bangladesh's interim government, of Malaysia's support in restoring peace and security in the country.

Anwar shared this information in a Facebook post on Wednesday (August 14), following a telephone conversation with Yunus.

Anwar Ibrahim expressed his willingness to back the interim government in its efforts to stabilise Bangladesh, stating, "Had a phone call with my old friend Prof Muhammad Yunus yesterday, personally congratulated him on his recent appointment as Chief Adviser to the Interim Government of Bangladesh."

He emphasised the strong relationship between Yunus and Malaysia, adding, "I assured him that Malaysia is ready to help and support the interim government in rebuilding and restoring peace and security in Bangladesh."

Anwar also commended Yunus for his commitment to protecting and ensuring equal rights for all Bangladeshi citizens, including minorities.

"Professor Dr. Yunus invited me to visit Bangladesh as soon as possible to further strengthen the brotherly relations between the two countries,” Anwar added.
