Shawwal moon not sighted in Saudi Arabia, Eid on Wednesday

Saudi Arabia will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday as Shawwal moon was not sighted in the kingdom on Monday.

Abdullah al-Khudairi, director of the astronomical observatory at the University of Majmaah, told Arabic chaneel Al Ekhbariya, “It is difficult to see the Shawwal crescent because of the clouds.”

“The moon will set before the sun, therefore Shawwal crescent will not be seen,” he added.

The authorities in Saudi Arabia on Saturday had asked the citizens to sight the Shawwal moon in the evening of April 8.

In a statement, the Saudi Supreme Court called on the residents to report the moon sighting and notify the respective authority.

As per the Sharia, the sighting can be done with the naked eye or by using binoculars, following which the discovery must be notified to the nearest court or centre, Alarabiya News reported.
