India with Bangladesh in fight against terrorism: Modi

Indian prime minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reaffirmed that India is with Bangladesh in its fight against terrorism as it did during the Liberation War in 1971.

The Indian prime minister came up with the assurance when Bangladesh’s home minister Asaduzzaman Khan met him on the 2nd day of the 5th India-Bangladesh home ministerial meeting in India, reports United News of Bangladesh.

The home minister thanked Modi on behalf of prime minister Sheikh Hasina for India’s support to Bangladesh in its fight against terrorism.

About the recent terrorist attacks in Bangladesh, Modi praised Sheikh Hasina’s leadership in dealing with terrorism.

Citing Bangladesh’s long tradition of communal harmony, Azaduzzaman said the people of all regions, including the minority people, can perform their religious activities in Bangladesh without fear.

He said those involved in recent terrorist attacks in Bangladesh are homegrown ones, and no evidence has been found over their link to international terrorist groups.

Modi also agreed with the home minister over the matter.

Bangladesh high commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali and senior home secretary M Mozammel Haque Khan were, among others, present at the meeting.

Khan reached Delhi on Wednesday afternoon leading a high-level delegation on a three-day visit to join the fifth home minister-level talks between the two countries.
