Eminent writer Mahasweta Devi dies at 90
Eminent author and social activist Mahasweta Devi died in Kolkata on Thursday after a short illness. She was 90.
The Jnanpith, Padma Vibhushan and Magsaysay awardee had been suffering from age-related illness for a long time and had been admitted in the hospital for around two months.
Known for a lifetime of dedicated work for the welfare of tribals in different parts of India, several of her novels have been turned into films over the years.
Her notable works include ‘Hajar Chaurashir Maa’, ‘Breast Stories’, and ‘Tin Korir Sadh’.
