Coronavirus death toll rises to 7,987

The deadly epidemic, novel coronavirus, first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to at least 165 countries and regions, killing 7,987 people globally.  

The virus, also called COVID-19, infected as many as 198,422 people across the globe, according Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

The website also said around 82,762 people recovered from the virus. 

A total of 80,894 people were infected with novel coronavirus and 3,237 died from in mainland China, the early epicenter of the outbreak. 

Outside China, European country Italy has become the worst-hit by the virus. The 31,506 people contracted the virus and 2,503 died. 

The third worst-affected country by the virus is Iran. Its coronavirus tally reached 16,169 and 988 people lost their lives.   

The deadly coronavirus was also detected in Bangladesh, too. The country on Tuesday reported two more cases of the virus, raising the number of cases to 10, said Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR).  

Detection of the coronavirus cases prompted Bangladesh government to close all educational institutions until March 31.
