Putin’s pen sold for Tk 64 lakh at auction
A crystal-encrusted pen that Russian President Vladimir Putin used to ink political deals sold at an auction for a cold hard $77,170 (BDT 64,07,425) in cash, according to a report Friday.
Putin’s black Parker pen - which is embossed with the Russian coat of arms and adorned with 20 Swarovski crystals - went under the hammer at the largest auction house in Paris this week, according to Central European News.
A mystery buyer plunked down cash via phone for the pen, which was part of Putin’s personal collection, the outlet reported.
The upscale scribbler came with a certificate of provenance and authenticity.
An expert said the pen’s high price tag is a sign of the times, noting Putin’s modern political significance may have played a role.
The auction house, Hotel Drouot, has not released the identity of the buyer.
