New York bomb suspect Akayed warned Trump on Facebook

The man who faces terror charges over Monday's bus terminal bombing in New York posted a warning to President Donald trump just before the attack.

"Trump you failed to protect your nation," it read. The post by Akayed Ullah was revealed in charges filed by federal prosecutors on Tuesday. They say the 27-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant carried out the bombing inspired by the Islamic State group.

He wounded himself and three others in Monday morning's attack. Mr Ullah is accused of blowing up a crude device strapped to his body in an underpass at Manhattan's Port Authority Bus Terminal during the rush hour.

Akayed Ullah, 27, was charged in a criminal complaint filed in Manhattan federal court with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organisation, bombing a public place, destruction of property by means of explosive and use of a destructive device.

Mr Ullah told police interviewers after the blast that "I did it for the Islamic State," according to court papers filed by federal prosecutors. Prosecutors said he began the process of self-radicalisation in 2014 when he began viewing pro-IS materials online. They also said he carried out his attack because he was angry over US policies in the Middle East.

New York officials also charged Mr Ullah with terrorism, accusing him of setting off a pipe bomb, as investigators in his home country questioned his wife.

Mr Ullah was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, supporting an act of terrorism, and making a terroristic threat under New York state law, the New York Police Department said.

The federal charges, which are expected to take precedence over the state charges, carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.
