Over 500 media figures to cover Riyadh summits

More than 500 media figures from all over the world are converging on Riyadh for an extensive coverage of the historic Arab, Islamic-US summit in Riyadh, according to Awwad Al-Awwad, minister of culture and information, reports Saudi Gazette.

The ministry is hosting the huge contingent of the media personnel to cover this great event. “Saudi Arabia is keen on implementing an ambitious strategy to make investments in the media and advanced technology fields as part of the Vision 2030,” he said in a press briefing.

Al-Awwad said that the decision of US President Donald Trump to choose Saudi Arabia as his first overseas destination since taking office stems from his recognition of the Islamic status of the Kingdom and its international importance and value as a strategic ally of the United States.

He said that the meeting between Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and US President Trump is expected to bolster the political, commercial and security ties between the two countries. The visit would lead to clinching bilateral agreements that will lead to economic growth and investment and contribute to new prospects for partnership between the two countries.

Al-Awad said that the leaders of more than 50 Islamic countries will attend the Riyadh summit meetings and these nations move hand in hand with US in confronting the threat of terrorism and extremism, and emphasizing that Islam is innocent of terrorism in all its forms, “We hope that this historic event will be an important step in the eradication of the terrorism affecting the people of the world without an exception,” he added.
