Tuvalu, Central Africa Republic new IPU members

Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), a unique body of national parliaments worldwide, today approved the membership of two countries raising the total number of its members to 173.

“Tavalu and Central Africa Republic are now IPU members as the IPU Governing Council with IPU President Saber Hossain Chowdhury in the chair endorsed the memberships of the duo today,” IPU spokesperson Jean Miligan told BSS this evening.

She said all the member countries participating in the five-day IPU conference here unanimously reached a consensus in this regard.

The IPU, created by parliamentarians in 1889, has grown into a vibrant global entity committed to promoting democracy, equality, human rights, development and peace.
