Anderson out of England tour to Bangladesh
England paceman James Anderson is set to be forced out of the tour of Bangladesh by injury.
The shoulder problem that has affected his summer involvement with the Test team is set to see England’s record wicket-taker replaced for the two-Test series.
Anderson, who sits sixth in Test cricket’s all-time wickets table with 463 scalps, turned 34 in July and earlier this month indicated he may not be able to play the full upcoming series against Bangladesh and India.
England will play seven Tests in just over eight weeks before Christmas, and Anderson will hope to be involved for the five matches in India.
Press Association Sport understands Anderson’s withdrawal from the touring party will be announced on Thursday morning, which is also when the one-day side depart for the first leg of the series.
Anderson has not played since England`s 10-wicket defeat by Pakistan at The Oval, which ended on August 14.
Last week when speaking about England`s schedule, and playing every match, Anderson said: ‘It’s a tough one because as a player if you’re fit you want to play, simple as that, no matter what the format you’re desperate to play.
‘But there may well come a time when it will get managed. At 34 I probably have to manage myself, be managed, quite well. You want, if possible, to play every Test but India is going to be five back to back and that’s a huge ask for any bowler.’
Anderson is no longer a part of the one-day England team and was therefore not due to depart on Thursday for their three-match limited-overs series.
Nottinghamshire’s Jake Ball, named in the ODI squad for Bangladesh but not the Test party, may get the nod to stay on for the second half of the tour.
The first Test begins in Chittagong on October 20, with England having two two-day warm-up games ahead of the match.
The opening Test of the India tour is due to begin in Rajkot on November 9.
