After much anticipation, the world-renowned motorcycle brand Royal Enfield has officially entered the Bangladeshi market. Although the current regulations limit the riding of high CC bikes on local streets, motorcycle enthusiasts will soon be able to indulge in their passion, starting today.

On Monday, Royal Enfield inaugurated its first flagship showroom in the Tejgaon area of the capital, marking a significant milestone for the brand. With prices starting at four lakh taka, the showroom aims to provide an upscale experience for its customers, offering sales, service, and support through a dedicated service center.

In September 2021, the Ministry of Home Affairs authorised the sale of bikes with engine capacities up to 350 CC in Bangladesh, prompting companies like Bajaj, Honda, Yamaha, and Royal Enfield to introduce higher CC models.

Royal Enfield, in collaboration with Ifad Autos, has taken responsibility for producing, marketing, and distributing its motorcycles in Bangladesh, with a new production unit established in Chauddagram, Cumilla—its seventh globally, alongside facilities in Nepal, Brazil, Thailand, Colombia, and Argentina.

What drives its popularity

Royal Enfield’s allure lies in its rich history, heritage, quality, and reliability. The bikes have garnered immense popularity, particularly among younger riders, thanks to their powerful engines and stylish aesthetics. Their robust construction and mechanical dependability have also made them favorites among various military forces worldwide.

Consumer enthusiasm has been palpable; many have eagerly awaited the brand's arrival in the local market. "I have been waiting for Royal Enfield for a long time," said Faizullah from Bogura. "I’ve traveled to neighboring countries for business, but never had the chance to ride one at home—now I finally do."

Fellow motorcycle enthusiast Naveed Ishtiaq Taru shared his thoughts with Jago News, saying, “Considering the price, it’s fairly reasonable. However, I believe it could be slightly lower. Plus, with higher CC comes the concern of mileage on the congested streets of Dhaka.”

He pointed out that existing motorcycle brands in Bangladesh offer more advanced technology at competitive prices, and many riders prefer thicker tires, which Royal Enfield models do not feature. “These bikes are heavier, making them somewhat challenging to control,” he added.

He observed that the Royal Enfield's popularity appears to resonate more with those who have experience biking, as the event attracted a more mature audience. “To capture the younger generation, the brand must innovate with more advanced technology,” he noted.

Pricing structure

Muidur Rahman Tanvir, Head of Business Operations for Royal Enfield and Apollo Tires, informed Jago News that the prices for the four models will begin at Tk 3.4 lakh for the Hunter 350, Tk 4.1 lakh for the Classic 350, Tk 4.1 lakh for the Bullet 350, and Tk 4.35 lakh for the Meteor 350. Each model will come equipped with an advanced fuel injection system and the refined single-cylinder 'J' series engine, with prices varying based on color and braking system options.

Although the models are now being showcased, actual sales will not commence immediately; pre-booking is required. Interested buyers can reserve their bikes online or at the showroom, starting at 8:00am today.  The authorities were forced to take the online pre-booking page off line because of huge traffic.

Model highlights

Each Royal Enfield model boasts distinct features tailored to its engine class. The Bullet, Classic, and Hunter models are powered by advanced EFI engines. The Classic 350 is not only an iconic model but also the brand’s best-seller, featuring a single-cylinder air-cooled 349CC engine that produces 22.2 BHP at 1,900 rpm and 20 Nm of torque at 1,000 rpm.

The Hunter 350 is designed with a round headlight, dual rearview mirrors, and console indicators, along with rotary swtich and a tear-drop shaped fuel tank.

Conversely, the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 is celebrated for its heritage and features a dual-channel ABS braking system for enhanced safety on rough terrains, making it an ideal choice for long-distance travel.

Meanwhile, the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 presents a modern twist with its classic-style console panel and robust round headlights. Dealers emphasise that this new generation of Royal Enfield models maintains the brand's legacy while delivering advanced performance.
