Jago News feature writer Mosharof gets Meena Media Award
Mohammad Mosharof Hussain, a feature writer for the country's leading online news portal Jago News, has received the UNICEF Meena Media Awards 2022.
He got the award for his article 'Educationally deprived children of Bede community are at mental-physical health risks' published on Jago News on March 4 this year.
Launched by UNICEF in 2005, the Meena Media Awards recognizes excellence in journalistic reporting that promotes the cause of children.
In the article, Mosharof upheld the mental and physical health risks, child marriage, and educational deprivation of the children of the Bede community in the country.
About receiving the award, he said it will inspire him to do more good works in the future, and he wants the country's public and private organizations will come forward to ensure the community children's right to education.
There is no chance for the country to move forward by leaving the children of the Bede community behind in education, he said, adding that they also have this basic right to education.
Mosharof from a remote village of Jhenaigati upazila in Sherpur has been engaged in volunteer activities and journalism since childhood.
He was acclaimed for standing beside the Bede people, mainly a gypsy community by nature, during the coronavirus pandemic, and later, he was recognized as 'Hidden Hero' by the international organization World Vision Bangladesh.
The freelance journalist and volunteer has been working as a feature writer for Jago News since October 24, 2021.
