World Environment Day to be observed on June 5
The World Environment Day 2017 will be observed in the country as elsewhere in the world on June 5 aiming at stimulating awareness on environment and enhancing political attention.
Ascertained by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the day is observed every year on 5th June to raise global awareness on the need to take positive environmental actions.
Different government and non-government organizations have taken elaborate programmes to observe the day.
The theme of the day this year is "Connecting People to Nature" and the slogan is "I`m with Nature".
Marking the World Environment Day, National Tree Plantation Programme and Tree Fair 2017, Environment and Forests Minister Anowar Hossain Manju addressed a press conference in the city today.
He said the main programme of the day will begin at Bangabandhu International Conference Center on June 4 and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programme. The tree fair will continue for three months, he added.
To mark the day, Department of Environment and Forests will publish supplement supplements and magazines. Besides, rallies, discussions and art competitions will be held at district and upazila levels, Manju said.
The day will also be celebrated at 100 educational institutions in the capital, he added.
Deputy Minister of the ministry Abdullha Al Islam Jakob and Acting Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed, among others, were present at the press conference.
