Depression develops in Bay, signal one for maritime ports
The well-marked low over southeast bay and adjoining central bay concentrated into a depression over the same area, a Met Office weather bulletin said on Sunday.
It was centered at 9 am today about 790 kilometers south-southwest of Chittagong port, 710 kilometers south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 815 kilometers south of Mongla port and 755 kilometers south of Payra port.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a northerly direction, the bulletin said.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 44 kilometers of the depression centre is about 40 kilometers per hour (kph) rising to 50 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain moderate near the system.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist distant cautionary signal number one.
All fishing boats and trawlers over deep sea have been advised not to venture into the deep sea, come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
Meanwhile, in association with rain or thundershowers temporary westerly or northwesterly gusty or squally wind speed 45-60 kph is likely to occur over the regions of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jessore, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet wherein river-ports shall hoist cautionary signal number one.
