TIB calls for accountability in climate funding
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has urged the authority to take a strong measure to ensure transparency and accountability in climate financing in projects implementing under local government.
The anti graft watchdog unveiled a study titled ‘Climate Financing and Local Government Institutions: Governance in Project Implementation’, at a press conference at the TIB head office in the city on Monday.
Senior program manager SSM Jewel and deputy program manager Nahid Sharmin jointly unveiled the research study.
“The concerned department should be careful so that tax payers’ money are not misused or used on political purposes. There is no alternative to increase the skills of the employees who manage the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund (BCCTF),” said Sultana Kamal.
Iftekharuzzaman, TIB executive director has urged the government to increase BCCTF’s allocations. He also said that reformulation of BCCTF trustee board was needed.
“The authority should take a strict measure to ensure transparency and accountability in the implementation of local government level Climate Change projects,” he urged.
TIB trustee board chairperson Sultana Kamal presided over the press conference while its executive director Iftekharuzzaman, deputy executive director Sumaiya Khair and director (research and policy) Mohammad Rafique Hassan were present at the press conference.
