Shilpakala DG’s resignation a personal choice: Shafiqul

Dr Syed Jamil Ahmed’s decision to step down as Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is a personal one, said Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.

During a briefing on Saturday, March 1, at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road, Dhaka, Shafiqul came up with the answer at reporter’s question.  

When pressed on the government’s stance, Shafiqul deferred to the Cultural Affairs Adviser’s prior explanation. “That’s all I’ll say on it,” he added. 

Reflecting on Jamil Ahmed’s tenure, Shafiqul said, “He served with us for six months—an honour for us. A celebrated playwright and theatre luminary, we hope he’ll continue enriching Bangladesh’s drama scene.”
