Renowned actor Prabir Mitra has passed away after a prolonged battle with various health issues. He breathed his last at 10:10 pm on Sunday. His son, Mithun Mitra, confirmed the news to Jago News.

Prabir Mitra is survived by two sons and one daughter: Mithun Mitra, Ferdous Parveen, and Sifat Islam. His other son, Samiul Islam, had passed away earlier. His wife, Ajantha Mitra, died in 2000.

Mithun Mitra said that to pay respects, his father’s body will be taken to the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) on Monday afternoon. Afterward, it will be moved to Channel I.

Prabir Mitra was born in 1941 in Chandpur. His ancestral home was in Shakta, Keraniganj, but he spent his childhood in Dhaka city. The Hariprosanna Mitra Road, located in the Kotwali Police Station area of Dhaka, is named after his grandfather. After completing his Bachelor of Science degree, Prabir Mitra ended his formal education.

Mitra made his film debut in 1971 with the movie ‘Jolchobi’, directed by H. Akbar. Over his prolific career, which spanned four decades, he acted in over 400 films. In 1982, he won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in ‘Boro Bhalo Lok Chhilo’. In 2018, he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Film Awards.
