ICT ministry withdraws Tk 50 lakh allocation for Nuhash’s film

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has canceled its previously announced allocation of Tk 50 lakhfor Nuhash Humayun’s debut feature film, ‘Moving Bangladesh’.

The ministry had initially pledged the funds in 2022 after reviewing the movie's script. However, Mohammad Nazrul Islam, director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Academy Establishment Project under the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), confirmed to the media that the allocation is no longer available.

Background of ‘Moving Bangladesh’

Moving Bangladesh first gained attention after receiving $89,800 (equivalent to over Tk 1.7 crore) from Taiwan's Taipei Film Commission. The project later secured additional funding and recognition from international platforms, including:

- Tokyo Grant Financing Market

- Cannes Festival’s Marché du Film Bazaar

- Locarno Film Festival

- Indian Film Bazaar

Domestically, the movie received Tk 25 lakh from ScreenCraft Film Fund.

Impact of the ministry's decision

Despite losing the ministry's allocation, the production team remains unfazed. Gupibagha, the production company behind the movie, assured that the withdrawal will not impact the film’s progress. Producer Arifur Rahman commented: "In terms of the overall budget for ‘Moving Bangladesh’, Tk 50 lakh is a relatively small amount. Its absence will not hinder production."

Nuhash Humayun's perspective

Nuhash, known for his work in short films and web series, shared his thoughts on the matter:  A good story attracts support. We’ve received significant funding from international sources and enthusiastic participation locally. The film is moving forward, and it will showcase the positive energy of the country’s youth."

He further revealed that the script is nearing completion, and filming is expected to begin next year. The cast and crew details will be announced soon.
