Apu Biswas sued for ‘occupying’ YouTube channel

Actress Apu Biswas is facing a lawsuit filed by producer Simi Islam Koli, accusing her of illegally occupying his YouTube channel. The case was registered on August 24 in a Dhaka court, under case number 1136/2024. Alongside Apu Biswas, content creators Hero Alam and Zahidul Islam Apon are also named as defendants.

In the complaint, producer Simi claims that his YouTube channel was hacked and taken over by Apu Biswas and Zahidul Islam Apon. Despite attempts to resolve the issue through a registering a General Diary and the Producers' Association, Simi turned to the court after the matter remained unresolved.

According to Simi’s allegations, in August of the previous year, Apu Biswas and Zahidul Islam Apon unlawfully gained control of his channel. Though Apu assured that the channel would be returned, no action was taken. Simi was eventually compelled to file a General Diary at Lalbagh Police Station on January 28 this year.

Hero Alam then intervened, offering to mediate and promising a resolution. However, Simi claims that Apu demanded a payment of Tk 10 lakh for the return of the channel. Simi agreed to pay Tk 5 lakh through Hero Alam, in the hope that the channel would be returned. After the payment, the channel was restored, but the older videos were deleted.

Simi expressed his frustration, stating, "I repeatedly contacted Apu about the channel, but she ignored my requests. Even producer Khorshed Alam Khusru spoke to Apu on my behalf, but Apu did not respond. Then Hero Alam promised to solve the matter, claiming he would talk to Apu. After I paid the money and got the channel back, the videos were removed. When I brought this up to Hero Alam, he said he would look into it, but I haven’t heard from him since."
