Shafin Ahmed, the lead singer and bassist of popular rock band ‘Miles’, has passed away at the age of 63.

He breathed his last at Sentara Hospital in Virginia, United States of America, at 6:50am on Thursday (Bangladesh local time). 

His wife Nahin Ahmed confirmed his death to Jago News, stating that Shafin died of a heart attack.

According to his family, Shafin had a concert scheduled in Virginia on July 20 but had to cancel when he fell ill suddenly. He was subsequently admitted to the hospital and placed on life support as his condition worsened. He died there while undergoing treatment.

Shafin was born on February 14 in 1961. He was the youngest son of famous musicians Kamal Dasgupta and Feroza Begum. He began his musical career at the age of 9 by taking lessons about Nazrul Sangeet. He was exposed to western musical influences since he studied in England, along with his elder brother, Hamin Ahmed. They then joined the band ‘Miles’ which went on to become a leading musical group in Bangladesh.

In February, 2017, Shafin joined a political party named Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Bobby Hajjaj. He was nominated as a member of the Superior Council, party’s highest policy-making forum. He later joined Jatiya Party in July 2018. In September, 2021, he was appointed as the vice chairman of the party.
