Yash has undergone multiple look tests as Ravan for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan: Source
After the debacle of Adipurush, Indian cinema is ready to present another iteration of Ramayan. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film has been in the scripting stages for a while now. There have been rumours about casting Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the roles of Ram and Sita, but no announcements have been made yet. Now, reports have emerged suggesting that KGF star Yash has been undergoing a few look tests for the role of Ravan.
Reportedly, Ranbir’s name has come up for Ram but the role of Sita has not been offered to any female actor yet. But, the work on Ravan is going ahead with the makers doing a few look tests with Yash. However, Yash has also not been finalised for the role yet. “They are just working on Ravan and for that Yash has undergone multiple look tests recently. The finalisation of Yash is yet to be decided. The casting of Sita and Hanuman will take some time, a few months for sure,” the source said.
The source added, “The makers are in no hurry and are taking enough time before every step they finalise. There were speculations about Ranbir Kapoor, which is true. But no actress has been approached for any role in Ramayan. In fact, the film has not yet reached the stage where they offer Sita’s role to anyone. Nobody has been approached yet for the role of Sita.”
NItesh Tiwari says his Ramayan won’t offend anyone
Previously, during the promotions of Bawaal, director Nitesh Tiwari spoke about his version of Ramayan in the current climate and told Zoom Entertainment, “My question is very simple. I am also a consumer of the content that I create and if I’m not going to offend myself than I’m very confident that I might not end up offending anybody else.”
Adipurush landed in controversy soon after its release as the audience found its dialogues to be extremely objectionable. The film was criticised by fans and critics who did not appreciate Om Raut’s film starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan.
Nitesh Tiwari’s last film Bawaal, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, also landed in some controversy after Jewish human rights body Simon Wiesenthal Center called it a “banal trivialisation of the suffering and systematic murder of millions of victims of the Nazi Holocaust”. The film had Janhvi’s character saying a dialogue, “We’re all a little like Hitler, aren’t we?” when speaking about human greed. Another character had a dialogue, “Every relationship goes through their Auschwitz,” implying that every relationship has its struggles.
