Directors don’t see me in different roles: Irrfan
Irrfan Khan may be known for his versatility, but the actor rues that directors often don’t visualise him in different roles and stick to a particular image created by the industry.
‘When you do a film, a role, you create an image and industry wants to use that image and give you similar parts. If you keep on doing it, you keep on pumping that image,’ Irrfan told reporters.
The 49-year-old Piku star says it is important for an artiste to break free in order to not feel ‘caged’.
‘As I create an image, I feel caged when people start identifying me with that image. You do Haasil and you get similar kind of roles. Then how do you break it? You do a love story, then some other movies.’
When asked if this is because directors don’t offer him different roles, Irrfan said, ‘Oh yes. Because it’s easier for them. They don’t see me in different roles because it needs imagination. If they get ready stuff, they want to use it as it is.’
The actor’s recent project Madaari released last Friday and Irrfan says he is content with the collections of the movie. ‘I am satisfied with the way it is going, it has picked up. Whoever is watching is taking their families along,’ he said.
Irrfan was speaking at the new cover launch of Stardust magazine.
