SC lifts Ban on Rana Plaza screening

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has stayed a High Court order on Sunday that issued a six-month ban on the screening of Rana Plaza, a film on RMG worker Reshma Begum who was buried alive under the rubble of Rana Plaza for 17 days before rescue workers found her.

A four-member appeals bench, led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, cleared the movie for screening after resolving plea by producer Shamima Akhter.

On August 24, the High Court issued the ban on screening the film following a contempt of court petition filed by Bangladesh National Garment Workers Employees League chief Sirajul Islam on August 20.
