Actress Mahi granted bail
A court in Gazipur has granted bail to actress Mahiya Mahi in a case filed under the Digital Security Act, hours after the same court ordered to send her to jail.
Judge of Gazipur Metropolitan Magistrate Court-5 Md Iqbal Hossain gave her bail around 5 pm on Saturday, her lawyer advocate Anwar Sadat Sarker confirmed.
He said the court granted her bail considering that she learned she was sued while performing Umrah, she is respectful to the law, which is why she returned home, and she is a nine-month pregnant.
Advocate Sadat also said they earlier did not seek bail for her when she was produced before the court and for this, the judge ordered to send her to jail.
Now they prayed for bail and the court granted it, he said, adding that they hope Mahi will be released from jail at night.

Earlier this afternoon, Gazipur Metropolitan Magistrate Court-5 ordered to send her to jail after police had presented her before the court.
Police arrested the Dhallywood actress from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka in the case when she reached there after performing Umrah in Saudi Arabia.
Mohammad Rokon Miah, sub-inspector of Basan Police Station under Gazipur Metropolitan Police, filed the case against Mahi and her husband Rakib Sarker on Friday.
In the case, Mahi was accused of deteriorating the law and order situation by spreading defamatory information on Facebook live.
Besides, allegations of various misdeeds, including land grabs, drug dealing and extortions, were raised against Rakib. He is also accused in some cases, including murder.

He is the former Joint Secretary of Awami League’s Relief and Social Works sub-committee and also involved himself in the politics of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
A few months ago, Mahi collected a nomination form from Awami League to contest in the by-polls to Chapainawabganj-2 but the party’s Parliamentary Nomination Board didn’t pick her for the seat.
Mahi, however, went live on Facebook early Friday following her husband Rakib's car showroom in Gazipur city was attacked and furniture there vandalized by miscreants.
