Legendary singer Sumitra Sen passes away at 89

Legendary singer Sumitra Sen is dead. The singer was 89 years old at the time of death. Sen was suffering for a long time. She breathed her last at her own home in Kolkata. Her daughter, acclaimed Rabindra Sangeet artist Srabani Sen took to Facebook to inform the news, reports Times Now. 

Earlier in the wee hours of the morning, Srabani Sen took to Facebook to post, "Aaj Maa bhore chole gelen (Mother left us today at dawn)."

As per reports, Sen suddenly caught a bout of cold last month and was admitted to a private hospital on December 29. Her deteriorating health had prompted her family to bring her home, where she breathed her last.

During her time at the hospital, Sumitra Sen was diagnosed with bronchopneumonia. Complications arose from her condition and she breathed her last on the wee hours of January 3.

In an earlier interaction with TV9 Bengali, Srabani Sen had revealed that her mother is well past the prime of her age and is suffering from age-related aiments. Stating that her mother is not doing good, she had revealed the family has brought her home after consulting with doctors.

She was 89 years old at the time of her death. He was admitted to the hospital for some time due to old age," shared one person, while a second wrote, "Demise of Smt. Sumitra Sen is painful and it is a great loss of music world." A third wrote, "Renowned #RabindraSangeet exponent Smt. Sumitra Sen passed away today morning."
