Nipun files appeal against HC order
Bangla movie actress Nipun Akter has filed an appeal against a High Court order that stayed the decision to cancel the candidacy of actor Zayed Khan for the post of General Secretary of Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association (BFAA).
The appeal was filed with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday morning.
Nipun’s lawyer Mostafizur Rahman Khan confirmed the matter to Jago News.
Earlier on Monday, the High Court stayed the decision made by the appellate board of the BFAA election that cancelled the candidature of Zayed Khan.
On Saturday, the election appellate board disqualified Zayed’s candidacy and declared Nipun as the newly elected general secretary on allegations of not adhering to electoral code of conduct.
Earlier, the voting in the 17th BFAA election was held at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises on January 28.
Actors Ilias Kanchan and Zayed Khan were announced elected as the president and general secretary respectively of the body for the 2022-2024 term.
After the results, Nipun, who was narrowly defeated by Zayed Khan, brought allegations of buying votes in exchange for money against him and demanded re-election.
