HC displeased with 2 judges' explanations over Pori Moni's remand
The High Court (HC) on Wednesday expressed disappointment over the explanations given by two lower court judges for placing actress Pori Moni on remand for the second and third time in a narcotics case.
"One judge, while explaining his position, narrated the dreadfulness of drugs. The other one doesn't even believe that there was a mistake in allowing remand plea. We are not satisfied by these explanations. These explanations have undermined the High Court," the court said.
A High Court division bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar said these while going through the explanations filed by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Devbrata Biswas and Atiqul Islam.
The HC set September 29 for passing further order in this regard.
Senior lawyer ZI Khan Panna took part in the hearing for Pori Moni, while Deputy Attorney General Abu Yahia Dulal and Assistant Attorney General Md Mizanur Rahman argued for the state.
The High Court on September 2 had ordered the two lower court judges to explain, based on which evidences they had allowed remand pleas against Pori Moni second and third time. They were ordered to submit their explanations in writing within 10 days.
Meanwhile, Pori Moni today pleaded to get back her car, laptop and mobile phone, which have been seized by police in the narcotics case.
The actress made the plea while appearing before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder in the case. After hearing the plea, the court asked the investigation officer (IO) to scrutinize the ownership of the objects and submit a report to the court.
The court also set October 10 to submit probe report in the case.
