Lady Gaga reads out names of Orlando shooting victims at LA vigil
Renowned singer Lady Gaga had organized a vigil in Los Angeles on Monday, where she read out the names and ages of the 49 victims at the recent Orlando shooting.
‘Tonight I gather humbly with you, as a human being, in peace and sincerity, in commitment and solidarity, to take a real moment and mourn the tragic loss of these innocent, beautiful people’,The singer mentioned before reading out the names.
Held at Los Angeles City Hall, she said that the ‘attack is on everyone’.
‘I can’t help but feel that this level of hatred, like all prejudicial crimes, this is an attack on humanity itself,’ she added.
City Hall was decorated in rainbow colours to represent solidarity with the LGBT community. Lady Gaga was accompanied by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, Bienestar Human Services, the Los Angeles Transgender Advisory Council and the Latino Equality Alliance.
The vigil was one of many held around the country Monday night for victims of the deadly attack.
In Manhattan, thousands crowded the streets around the famed Stonewall Inn, a gay rights landmark, where New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke to the crowd.
And in Orlando, thousands gathered on the lawn of the Dr. Phillips Center downtown, the area’s main performing arts venue that has become a memorial for the victims.
