PM donates Tk 10 lakh to ailing actor ATM Shamsuzzaman
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday gave financial assistance worth Tk 10 lakh to ailing film actor ATM Shamsuzzaman.
On her behalf, her special assistant barrister Biplob Barua handed over the cheque to Shamsuzzaman’s daughter Koyel at Azgar Ali Hospital in Old Dhaka in the morning.
Coordinator of National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute Dr Samanta Lal Sen and musician Rafiqul Islam were present during this time.
Veteran actor ATM Shamsuzzaman, 77, was hospitalized on April 26. He underwent surgery on April 27.
His illness originated from indigestion, his daughter-in-law Ruby Zaman stated.
Shamsuzzaman began his career as a comedian. He also wrote over 100 stories, and film scripts. His movie career started in 1961, as the Assistant Director in “Bishkonna.” He first gained popularity as an actor through Amzad Hossain’s “Noyonmoni” (1976).
Born on September 10, 1941 in Noakhali, the actor was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2015. He won Bangladesh National Film Awards five times for his roles in “Dayee Ke?” (1987), “Madam Fuli” (1999), “Churiwala” (2001), “Mon Bosena Porar Table E” (2009) and “Chorabali” (2012).
