Noted photographer Anwar found dead in hotel

Police recovered the body of internationally renowned photographer and cinematographer Anwar Hossain from a city hotel this morning.

“We recovered the body of eminent photographer Anwar Hossain from room no-809 of the Olio International Hotel at around 10:45 am today,” said Sher-e-Banglanagar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) GG Biswas, reports BSS.

Police found an inhaler and medicines of cardiology besides Anwar’s body, he said, adding that the body was sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardi Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.

About cause of Anwar’s death, the OC said, “We can say the exact cause of his death after getting the postmortem report.”

Anwar, a Bangladeshi born France citizen, came to Dhaka to perform as judge at photography competition here and got on room no 809 of the hotel on November 28,” he added.

“The organizers of the competition came to the hotel this morning and tried to attract his attention by repeatedly knocking the door of his hotel room for half an hour,” the police official said.

After being failed to get his response, they later informed the police of the matter and his body was recovered after breaking open the door of the hotel room, he continued.

Anwar, who won national awards several times for photography in movies, was born on October 6 in 1948, at Nawab Deuri in the old part of the city.
