President to open Asian art exhibition Saturday
President M Abdul Hamid will inaugurate the “18th Asian Art Biennial Bangladesh-2018”, the largest fine art exhibition in Asia, at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy here on September 1, reports BSS.
“The President will open the month-long art exhibition and also deliver a speech at the Jatiya Natyashala Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) at 3 pm on Saturday,” Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor told a press conference here today.
The Cultural Affairs Ministry and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy have jointly organized the exhibition at the National Art Gallery of BSA and it will continue till end of the month, he said.
Highlighting different aspects of the exhibition, the minister said, “This is not merely an exhibition, it will help introduce the Bangladeshi artifacts to the world.
Asaduzzaman said: “The largest fine art festival in Asia will further make strong the cultural ties among the participating countries.”
According to the organizers, the exhibition will display two and three dimensional artworks like painting, prints, photography, sculpture, installation, performance art and new media art.
This year 483 artworks by 465 artists from 68 countries will be put on display at the exhibition.
The participating countries include Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Afghanistan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, The Philippines, The United States of America (USA), Mongolia, Peru, Stein, Italy, Ireland, Egypt, Kenya, Turkey, Ukraine, Iran, Moscow and Germany.
The exhibition will be open for all from 11am to 8pm every day. Apart from the exhibition, two seminars and cultural functions will be held on September 2 and 3.
Director General (DG) of Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky, BSA Secretary Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury and director of fine art department Artist Ashraful Alalm Poplu, among others, were present at the press conference.
