Azhar v/s MS Dhoni: Which biopic will rock?

Undoubtedly, two of the most eagerly awaited Hindi film biopics are Azhar and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.

One based on the life and times of a fallen cricketing hero (Mohamed Azharuddin) and other revolving around the meteoric rise of India’s most successful cricket captain (MS Dhoni).

While Azhar may have remarked that there is no competition between his biopic and Dhoni’s as both are different films, the fact of the matter is box-office success will ultimately determine which cricketer finally made it large with the film loving masses. We take a look at the pros and cons of both films.

Perfect lead actors: Both biopics have got their castings spot on as far as their lead actors go.

No A-lister could have perhaps played Azhar and Dhoni well other than Emraan Hashmi and Sushant Singh Rajput respectively.

On the flip side, however, is their dipping box-office fortunes. Both actors need a commercial hit after successive box-office failures in past.

Supporting Star cast: Azhar wins this one hands down. Producer Ekta Kapoor has chosen a whole lot of popular actors to essay different roles in the film.

From Nargis Fakhri as Sangeeta Bijalani, Prachi Desai as Azhar’s first wife, Lara Dutta as the prosecution lawyer and Gautam Gulati as Ravi Shastri, one couldn’t have asked for a better starcast.

Dhoni, on the other hand, have newcomers Kiara Advani and Disha Patani essaying Dhoni’s love interests in the film.

Neeraj Pandey v/s Tony D’Souza: Neeraj Pandey, the man who gave Bollywood hits like Baby, A Wednesday is a proven performer.

With him directing Sushant in Dhoni, one can expect the movie to turn out into a thrilling story, something that Pandey is known for.

Tony, on the other hand, needs a hit to his name after the failures of Blue and Boss.

Love, sex & controversy: Azhar’s story is no different from a regular masala-filled Bollywood flick.

From love(Prachi Desai), sex (Nargis Fakhri) and controversy (match-fixing), Azhar has all elements needed to pull audience into theaters.

Dhoni, on the other hand, will rely solely on the good old rags-to-riches rise of M.S. Dhoni, the story of an underdog who went on to become a king.

Surprise element: Azhar’s life story is no secret. Much of his public life has been well-documented, written and read about.

It would be interesting to see what discreet elements of his life would be revealed in the biopic. Dhoni, on the the other hand, will be full of surprises.

One has seen the man excel on the cricket field but precious little is known about his personal life, his wife Sakshi and rumoured ex-girlfriend (played by Disha Patani). Knowing Neerja’s abilities, one can expect Dhoni to surprise us more than Azhar.
