Malaysian actor fined for punching Bangladeshi
Malaysian actor Sharnaaz Ahmad was slapped with a RM1,200 fine by a magistrate’s court for punching a Bangladeshi man at a golf club.
The actor, whose full name is Sharnaaz Ahmad Bazir Ahmad, admitted punching Gous Ali on his face at Level 1, TPC KL, Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, where the victim worked.
The incident happened at about 5.30pm on July 22.
The 32-year-old actor, who is married to Noor Nabila - the sister of popular actress Neelofa - appeared in court alone, wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and blue jeans.
He appeared calm when the charge was read out to him and then pleaded guilty.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum one year’s imprisonment or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on conviction.
Defence counsel Zulkifli Awang urged the court to mete out a lenient sentence because the actor was remorseful.
“He has apologised to the victim. The incident happened because of a misunderstanding,” he said, and asked the court not to impose jail time.
“The victim did not suffer serious injury,” Zulkifli added.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Noordin, however, asked the court for a sentence that would serve as a lesson to the accused.
Magistrate Mahyudin Mohmad Som set the amount, which was paid by the actor.
