6th death anniv of Tareque Masud and Mishuk Munier Sunday

The 6th death anniversary of renowned filmmaker Tareque Masud and cinematographer and broadcast journalist Mishuk Munier will be observed on Sunday.

Different organizations will arrange elaborate programmes while various television channels will screen special programmes on them and their works marking their tragic death, according to a news agency.

Tareque Masud Memorial Trust (TMMT) and Moviyana Film Society will jointly organize a programme on the occasion featuring a memorial lecture, discussion, and tribute to Tareque as well as screening his work.

As part of the programme, ‘Tareque Masud Memorial Lecture’ and memorial discussion will be held in the seminar room of Jatiyo Nattyshala of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy while a film screening will be held at the beginning of the programme.

Theatre personality Ramendu Majumdar, cultural personality and filmmaker Nasir Uddin Yusuf and filmmaker Morshedul Islam will participate in the memorial discussion.

General Secretary of the Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh (FFSB) and President of the Moviyana Film Society Belat Hossain Mamun will discuss and conduct the memorial and memorial lecture while President of FFSB architect Lilun Nahar Sabbi will preside over the memorial and memorial lecture.

The program will begin at 5pm with the screening of Tareque Masud's original documentary on the artist S.M. Sultan, 'Adam Surot' while Prasun Rahman's original documentary 'Fera’ will be displayed at 6 pm on the life of Tareque Masud. A special tribute 'August Aricha Road' by Prasun Rahman will also be screened at 7pm.

Filmmaker Prusun Rahman will present the keynote speech titled ‘Movies of Tareque Masud and reading and re-reading of Tareque Masud’ in the end after the candlelight vigil at 6:40 pm.

Meanwhile, Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) and the National Committee to protect river, road and railways and other organizations will observe the day.

DUFS organized the Ninth International Inter-University Short Film Festival from Saturday at the TSC auditorium with the screening of Bangla films while eminent filmmaker Catherine Masud, wife of Tareque Masud, attended the program.

As part of the DUFS programme, film screening will be held at Alliance Francaise, Dhaka, on August 20-21 and at Alliance Francaise, Chittagong, on August 24-25.

On August 13 in 2011, Tareque and Mishuk along with three others were killed in a tragic road accident on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Ghior Upazila of Manikganj while returning to Dhaka from Manikganj after visiting a filming location.

The accident happened when a microbus carrying the two celebrities collided with a bus on the highway.
