National Film Day today
The National Film Day-2016 is being observed on Monday in a befitting manner under the auspices of the Information Ministry and the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC).
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, understanding the impact of films on society, tabled a bill in the provincial assembly of erstwhile East Pakistan for the formation of Film Development Corporation (FDC) on April 3, 1957 as the then Industries and Commerce Minister and in continuation to that FDC was established.
April 3 is being observed as National Film Day every year since 2012.
The government has drawn up a day-long programme to mark the day while Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu will inaugurate the programme at BFDC.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu will join a seminar at BFDC at 3pm while cultural function will be staged at Jharna Spot of BFDC.
Marking the day, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages, calling for making film a major weapon to root out terrorism and militancy to build a non-communal society imbued with the spirit of Liberation War.
Different cultural and social organisations will observe day amid different programmes.
