Bangla songs aired in Ireland for first time

Bangla songs and music were aired for the first time in Ireland on Thursday by an FM radio station with the cooperation of Bangladesh High Commission in London.

Listeners can also listen to the programme on www.kclrfm96.com, said a press release received on Friday.

John Purcell, chief executive of KCLR, hosted the programme named ‘Distant Noises’ where music from around the world is played.

Nadeem Qadir, minister (press) of the high commission in London said, “This is for the first time ever Bangla music and songs have been played in Ireland.”

The development comes as Qadir paid a visit to the KSLR station on Kilkenny in Ireland last month and sent some CDs.

Some 1,00,000 residents of Kilkenny and nearby Carlow are the listeners of the FM radio which also includes residents of Bangladesh-origin, it said.
