Dhaka lit fest begins
Dhaka Literary Festival, an international literary event, will begin on Thursday at Bangla Academy premises.
This year, Nobel Prize winning litterateur VS Naipau will inaugurate the fest, according to organizers.
The two day long festival will open at 11am. Over 200 talents and more than 60 guests of the literary world from 18 countries will join the festival.
Organizers said that Sir Vidia, Pulitzer Prize winner American-Indian poet Vijay Seshadri, 2016 Man Booker Prize winner Deborah Smith and winner of 2014 European Union Prize for Literature Evie Wyld will also join the festival.
A director of the festival K Anis Ahmed said that their objective is to introduce Bangla literature and culture to the world. He said that this will be an exciting event for people who love literature.
DLF held a pilot event in 2011 under the aegis of the world famous Hay-on-Wye festival. It was Peter Florence who thought to try out Dhaka as one of the many ‘unexpected’ stops in Hay’s journeys across the world.
