No kissing in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil: Karan Johar
Karan Johar has laid to rest speculations about Aishwarya Rai and Ranbir Kapoor having indulged in some sizzling onscreen moments on screen. The filmmaker went to reveal that there is neither a lip lock nor any skin show in the film.
Speaking at MAMI mela, Karan said, ‘There is no kissing or skin show in this film. It is the attitude that you are reacting to. There is nothing. There is no censor cut on Aishwarya’s track. The censor understands the essence of the film and What you see is what you get.
There is no liplock. It is just in the eye. It is very easy to succumb to sexuality or sensuality with skin show. To do it with eyes that is where Aishwarya stepped in.’
Commenting more on maintaining clean dignity and no going overboard with romantic scenes, Karan said, ‘There was dignity in the projection and portrayal and there was so much conviction from where I was coming from and I knew I would transfer that conviction to Aishwarya’s elegance and her demeanour which is always so right and correct and she understood the character was such. She is a poetess in the film.
She has a past and she carries some baggage. She comes into her zone in the film. She is a woman of substance in every which way. She knows her mind heart and she is all soul. And yes responding to desire is something if you are honest about it the projection should be what everyone will see. What you see is just a glimpse of that character.
When it all comes together I was never ever for a second apologetic about out it even to tell her or ask her. It’s like when you have aankh ki sharam about something when you are embarrassed about it, it shows. Sabah to me one of my strongest female character because she is knows her heart mind body and everything about her and she is clear about her decisions.’
Praising Aishwarya, Karan said, ‘The dignity that Aishwarya brings to every character she portrays or every platform she has been on, I knew she would bring the level of dignity to this character. You never look at it and question for its supposed lack of decency because it is always so elegant. Aishwarya is a true artiste having travelled and worked in the west she knows what a film’s requirements are.’
