Pori Moni surrenders, gets bail
A Dhaka court has granted bail to actress Pori Moni after she surrendered before it in a case filed by Nasir Uddin Mahmud, the former president of Uttara Club Limited, who brought allegations of assault, vandalism, attempted murder, and issuing threats.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Zunaid issued the bail order on Monday morning.
Earlier, on Sunday, the same court framed charges against Pori Moni and issued an arrest warrant for her after she failed to appear for the hearing.
Nasir Uddin filed the case against Pori Moni and her two associates, Fatema Tuz Jannat Bonny and Zunaid Bogdadi Jimmy alias Jim, on July 6, 2022. The case stems from an incident at the Dhaka Boat Club on June 9, 2021, where they are accused of vandalizing the club, assaulting and threatening him, and attempting to murder him after drinking there without paying the bills.
On July 18, 2022, Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib Hasan directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to submit a probe report.
The PBI filed its report on March 18, 2024, stating that they had found evidence against Pori Moni and Zunaid Bogdadi Jimmy. However, they cleared Fatema Tuz Jannat Bonny of any involvement. Later, on June 26 of last year, Pori Moni surrendered to the court and was granted bail.
