Coaching, private tuition banned in primary schools

The government has imposed a ban on coaching classes and private tuition in classrooms of all government and private primary schools across the country after school hours and during the vacations.

This information was revealed in an office order published on the website of Primary Education Directorate on Tuesday, March 11.

The directorate officials said the order was issued to combat incidents like rape, sexual harassment and assault. However, the order did not mention rape and assaults.

The order said it has recently been observed that the classrooms of primary schools are used for coaching classes and private tuitions after school hours and during the holidays which is undesirable.

Under any circumstances, school classrooms cannot be used for any other purposes, including private tuitions or coaching classes, according to the order.
