KUET students announce boycott of VC, Pro-VC, DSW

Students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) have declared a boycott of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Director of Student Welfare.

This announcement was made on Wednesday at approximately 4:30 pm under the university medical centre.

The boycott stems from unmet demands by the student body. They have decided to submit a formal application to the chief advisor today, requesting new appointments for these three key positions.

From Tuesday afternoon, the campus saw violent clashes between members of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, centred around the demand to end student politics. Over a hundred students were injured in these confrontations.

At night, a press conference was held at the medical centre where students outlined five demands:

Implement an ordinance for lifelong expulsion of anyone engaging in politics on campus.

Take disciplinary actions, including filing cases and expulsion, against those involved in Tuesday's clashes.

Ensure military patrols around the campus until February 28.

The university administration should cover medical expenses for injured students.

The Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and Director of Student Welfare should resign, accepting responsibility for the recent failures.

The students gave an ultimatum until 1:00pm on Wednesday for these officials to resign, which was not met, leading to further student actions.

At around 1:45pm, students marched in a procession and locked the main gates of various campus buildings.
